Wedding rings traditionally consist of an engagement ring and/or a wedding band. Below, Prosperity Mansion & Farm would like to share their opinions on what to get, how much to spend and other tips about wedding rings.
Let's be honest, part of most women’s dreams is to get a glistening engagement ring from their soulmate. Diamond rings are a long-standing tradition for engagement rings. There are lots of options when it comes to diamond rings, some with larger price tags than others. The cut, size, and quality of the diamond, kind of precious metal, and where you buy the ring from will affect the cost of the ring.
Don't know what to get?
You probably have an idea of what your significant other likes in terms of engagement rings. If not, it’s okay if you aren't quite sure what to get them! There are some things you can do like: think about what ring matches their personality, take note of what type of precious metal they love, take a look at the jewelry they already own, and bring a friend / relative of your partner who knows what they love.
Ask their family members if they have any heirloom rings you could use to take your relationship to the next level. The significance of a ring that has been passed down will make your engagement even more special. You can always resize an heirloom ring at a local jeweler. Remember that your engagement ring may fit differently when put on next to the wedding band (Title, 2021). Just do your research when searching for someone to resize this one-of-a-kind ring. You should also be thinking about how much money you are willing to spend when picking out their rings.
How much should I spend?
Spend however much you are willing to on the engagement ring. There will be situations where you might consider upgrading it like on important anniversaries or birthdays (Frank Jewelers, 2019). No matter what ring you buy, your significant other will be happy regardless. Adding something like an engraving to their wedding band can be a unique touch for you and your partner to cherish.
Buying a vintage or secondhand wedding ring can be a cost saving option that is acceptable to some. Wedding rings are special so take the time to consider if this type of ring is suitable for your partners liking.
Don’t forget that the wedding band is equally as important as the engagement ring. Some engagement rings have a matching wedding band available for purchase. But let’s be real, it might not be the best time for you to buy both rings. If you are buying them separate, be sure to bring along your engagement ring when looking at wedding bands. This way you can be sure that both rings complement one another (Varina, 2021).
Tips
Buy wedding ring insurance! No matter how much the ring costs you should also think about insuring both of your rings. Doing so will help protect you if any theft, loss, or accident resulted in your wedding ring being gone.
Consider diamond alternatives that might offer a lower price tag. Just make sure the metal and stone of the rings you buy are durable for everyday wear. One great diamond alternative is lab-grown diamonds. With all of the glam and sparkle of a mined diamond, nobody would be able to tell any difference. Moissanite is another clear stone that looks very similar to diamonds with a lower price point.
If you know your soulmate is a tradition breaker, consider reflecting this in your engagement ring choice. It may be untraditional for you to get a non-diamond engagement ring or find a unique ring setting that is unique. When two people get together they form a unique bond, and the engagement ring should reflect that!
