Coronavirus is a terrible virus. It changed 2020 and the world as we knew it. And if you were planning on getting married in 2020, it probably affected your wedding too. It certainly affected your honeymoon. In all of the chaos, you’re probably wondering, ‘What should I do about my honeymoon?’ Never fear Prosperity Mansion & Farm has some awesome suggestions. We can help you out.
So you have gotten married at a wonderful outdoor / garden wedding venue. Yes, it's your wedding night. Many couples go to a quaint Bed & Breakfast for their first night together. After all, you are now exhausted but will want some alone time. Then you need to decide if you want to leave immediately for a honeymoon or go later. By later, we have been finding that couples are waiting up to a year from their wedding day and going on their honeymoon for their first anniversary. Please remember that we want you to be as safe as possible as much as we want you to be enjoying yourselves. So while we will not be recommending any international travel for quite some time, here are the options on what we do recommend:
Don’t venture far from home
Sometimes, there are amazing places close to home that you don’t even know exist!
For example, there is an amazing place that is only one hour away from Prosperity Mansion & Farm. It’s called Berkeley Springs, and it’s located in West Virginia. It’s approximately 90 minutes from the Baltimore, Maryland/Washington D.C area. Berkeley Springs is renowned for its art and spas. It is very famous for its warm mineral springs that are said to bring calmness and tranquility to all that enter. George Washington himself bathed in the mineral spring.
If you’re not in the mood for spas or art, that’s okay! There are also many other places you can go to in Maryland and Pennsylvania that are not too far. In addition to West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey and Virginia are also well within reach!
For Maryland, popular destinations are: Ocean City, Baltimore, and Frederick. All of these locations differ from each other, and all of them have different things to do, even with Coronavirus. Hotels are very cautious and ensure sanitation, but make sure you do very careful research on your hotels so that you can avoid a potential issue. Protect yourself.
Baltimore is a city with many different things to do. 1)Baltimore is the largest city in Maryland. Its place in American history was won in 1814, when British forces bombarded Fort McHenry for 25 hours without its surrender. The sight of the American flag still flying over the fort on the morning after the bombardment inspired Francis Scott Key's poem The Star Spangled Banner, which became the text of the national anthem.
2)The Walters Art Museum, located in the Mount Vernon Cultural District, is a standout.
3) The National Aquarium, in a striking building overlooking the Inner harbor.
4) The Edgar Allan Poe House
5) The Science Center
6) The American Visionary Art Museum, which displays the work of self-taught artists from around the world.
7) The Inner Harbor- You can literally spend days here alone. Make sure that you visit the USS Constellation.
8) The Baltimore Museum of Art is the largest art museum in Maryland with art from around the world including works by Matisse
9) Eat the wonderful seafood and dine at all of the ethnic neighborhood restaurants around the city.
If you want to visit a town that is into good food and art, Frederick, Maryland is definitely worth the trip. If you’re a beach person, then Ocean City, Maryland is the place to go if you’re looking for a Maryland beach.
If you’d like to venture outside of Maryland and into some neighboring states, Pennsylvania might be the closest to you. Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is a fascinating historical place where a major Civil War battle took place, and if you and your spouse are lovers of visiting historical sites, Gettysburg is rich with history and things to do with little risk of Coronavirus exposure, such as touring the battlefield site by car. Another historic yet modern city in Pennsylvania is Philadelphia. There are many things to do there as well.
Popular places to go in Delaware are Wilmington, Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach, and the state capitol, Dover. Delaware has a lot to offer, and a honeymoon shopping spree is the way to go in Delaware because they don’t have sales tax!
In Virginia, beautiful places to go are Shenandoah Valley and Shenandoah National Park. There are waterfalls and miles upon miles of nature, along with the Shenandoah Caverns, a geological and crystalline haven. Nature walks are so romantic! Again, if you and your new spouse enjoy history and historical interactive sites, Colonial Williamsburg is in fact open to the public, with some restrictions due to Coronavirus, but still dedicated to making wonderful memories with their guests.
New Jersey is a great place to go in the summer. Even Coronavirus can’t dampen the spirit of the waves as they crash upon the shores of Wildwood, Atlantic City, Ocean City (NJ), Avalon, and Cape May. There are miles upon miles of beaches, boardwalks, and fun to be had, even during Coronavirus. Parasailing, dolphin tours, and so much more can be done on the New Jersey beaches. It’s so romantic for newlyweds on Sunset Beach in Cape May. The sky lights up in a myriad of warm colors as the sun glows warmly as it sets.
Go to a bed and breakfast
They’re not too expensive and they are usually quaint, romantic little places that will give good deals and are near attractions.
If you have no interest in travelling, have a staycation honeymoon!
Staycation honeymoons are pretty simple, just stay home- but don’t work! Just spend time with your new spouse and enjoy each other’s company as newlyweds for the first time. Snuggle up and watch TV together! Eat out! Relax! Sounds pretty great!
Some final notes- If you do want to leave your house and book a place to stay and want to find things to do, make sure you book it as soon as possible. Some locations are struggling to stay open and need help fast. A lot of places will probably offer some very good deals that you can capitalize on. If you wait until after the Coronavirus is no longer a threat, prices will have surely skyrocketed upwards since there will be so many couples going on their honeymoons.
