Many underestimate the hidden costs involved in transforming someone’s backyard into a wedding venue, the price tag can escalate faster than you can say I do.

CLEAN UP-

And let us not forget about the cleanup. Unless you have a fairy godmother at your disposal, you will need to have people there when things are being delivered and set up such as the tent, tables and chairs restroom trailer etc. Many of these companies are not on time and carefully placing things is not in their vocabulary. I have had companies not show up until after 11:00 PM when I had been waiting all day. Many tent companies have caused damage my property. They are rushing to both set up the tent and again to break down. I cannot tell you the number of times that I find lights broken, damage to my retaining wall, flower beds crushed and more. I now find myself having to be there the entire time that they are working to protect my property. And forget them paying for damages!

 

 WHO WILL OVERSEE THE PROPSERTY ON THE WEDDING DAY?

First as mentioned, you will need someone to be there all day, the day BEFORE your wedding as things are being delivered and set up.


Next, someone should be responsible to oversee and maintain the property on the wedding day.  Kids or intoxicated guests are big culprits of the damage that can occur.


And the buck does not stop there, now there is the cleanup and trash removal as well as someone waiting for all the rented items to be retrieved. Finally, now you must attempt to restore the property to the way it looked before the big event took place. Repair the grass, flower beds and pick up the trash that never was thrown into trash cans and broken glass etc.


Yes, you will need to restore the person’s backyard to its previous glory. Ther are times when friendships are lost due to the damage that occurred due to a wedding. Every wedding that I have has at least some if not way more damage to contend with. People have no idea how rough a wedding can become with people who have been drinking all day and in full party mode as well as kids without supervision running about.


But the responsibilities don’t end once the last guest has departed. The day after the you will need an organized plan for managing the return of rented items and ensuring that everything is accounted for as well as the pickup of the tent, restroom trailer, tables, chairs etc.


RESTROOM TRAILERS:

Restroom trailers typically start at $1,500 but are included in the price of most wedding venues. Imagine hosting a gathering on someone's beautiful property, surrounded by your friends and family, only to find that uninvited guests' friends or friends of friends, are wandering through the home because there were no other restroom faculties available. This can, potentially compromise not only the homeowner's privacy but far more so their security. Without a restroom trailer, you are leaving the residence vulnerable to all sorts of unexpected scenarios. Again, this is just one of many things that are included at most wedding venues but double check to make sure.


HOW RELIABLE IS ACCESS TO THE PROPERTY?

Sadly, what would you do if the person allowing your wedding to take place on their property decides they no longer what to be involved? That obviously can and has happened. Imagine the heartbreak and confusion when the individual graciously hosting your wedding on their property suddenly withdraws their support. This scenario, though unfortunate, has happened. It can leave couples feeling lost at a critical juncture in their lives. When you book your wedding at a professional wedding venue there is a contract that will ensure that the date is yours. Ultimately, if you opt for a backyard wedding make sure that you have a clear, understanding of the effort and resources involved. None are inexpensive as previously thought and always require far more work than imagined.
